A Trip to New York

Last weekend my niece, my nephew, and my brother came to New York to help my niece, who’s name is Rigney, move into a beautiful new apartment on Wall Street! Riggs and Joe know Manhattan pretty well, Griffin, my nephew, brought his skateboard from Minnesota so he could explore. I brought him to the Columbus Avenue entrance to Central Park so he could have some fun skating around. he took off and was nowhere to be found for hours, which means that he had a wonderful time as well. This story was created using voice to text on a cell phone.

This reminder of the 1964 World's Fair is in Queens. The Unisphere is still "the World's largest World", designed as the NY World's Fair centerpiece, its diameter is 120 feet. FYI, three rings encircling it represent the orbits of Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin (the first Russian), Astronaut John Glenn (the first American), and Telstar (the first active communications satellite). Another symbol of unity and advancement, the largest sculpture in New Zealand is a sphere half the size, (https://ccc.govt.nz/culture-and-community/art-museums/fanfare) situated at the northern highway entrance to Christchurch where I live. Technical masterpieces more than aesthetic, they took me to a different story.

Great comment Kate - Thank you! Yes, the first image I thought of was Unisphere. This copy is in Columbus Circle. I didn't realize what the three rings represent, but I name my computers after satellites; my desktop, which I'm writing to you from, is named Telstar. Good comment about Sidney's gift to Christchurch, Fanfare. I would argue that Telstar was an aesthetic as well as a technical triumph, it's historic significance and the world unity it facilitated, including the Soviet Union. My laptop I've named Artemis - a big modern endeavor named after the ancient Goddess, to honor an unrecognized group. Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to figure out who and why - Cheers!
